The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Update course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. In this Instructor-led course, which includes active participation in simulated cases, students will enhance their skills in the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).
During the course students must pass a written exam and skills tests in order to receive an AHA ACLS completion card. The completion card is valid for 2 years.
An ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment is a prerequisite for taking the ACLS Update course. Please follow this link: https://elearning.heart.org/course/423
The ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment is an online tool before the course to evaluate a student's profiency and determine the need for additional review and practice in 3 sections: rhythm recognition, pharmacology, practical application. All students must review, understand and pass the precourse Self Assessment with a minimum of 70% (a minimum of 84% is preferred).
PLEASE NOTE: Will need a current AHA ACLS manual, if you don't already have one, prior to taking the online ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment. Please allow at least two weeks to complete prior to the class date.
After completion of the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment, print your Score Report and Completion Certificate and bring both documents with you to the class.
In order to take an ACLS Update course, please bring the following to the classs with you:
Current AHA ACLS Provider card, current AHA ACLS Provider Manual, ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment Completion Certificate and Score Report.
If your ACLS card is expired, you need to register for either an ACLS Provider course or a HeartCode ACLS course.
Per AHA policy, you are required to have the current textbook for this course. The book needs to be present in the classroom. If you don't have the current textbook you can purchase one here.
